How to Tap on Blendology Badges: A Simple Gesture with Thoughtful Design

When we designed Blendology’s tap-to-connect badges, our goal was to create a solution that’s both intuitive and efficient for attendees and organisers alike. While tapping might seem like a straightforward action, there’s actually a lot of thought and design behind how it works and why we’ve incorporated unique features like springs into the badge design.

How to Tap Blendology Badges the Right Way

Blendology’s tap-to-connect system makes networking at events seamless and hassle-free. However, for the best experience, it’s important to know how to tap your badge correctly. The key is to tap one corner of your badge in the middle of the screen on another attendee’s badge. This small but precise action allows the technology to register the connection instantly.

Here’s a quick breakdown of how to tap:

  1. Position the badges: Hold your badge so that one corner of it is aligned with the centre of the screen on the other person’s badge.

  2. Tap gently: Lightly tap one corner of your badge against the middle of the other badge’s screen. There’s no need to press hard—just a gentle tap will do the trick!

  3. Watch for confirmation: Once the tap is registered, lights will blink on both badges confirming that the connection has been made. It’s fast, simple, and efficient.

This method ensures smooth and error-free interactions during events, making it easy to exchange contact details, access event information, or track connections in real time. But the simplicity of the tap is only one part of the story—there’s more to the badge design that makes the experience even better.

Why the Springs? A Design for Comfort and Efficiency

When developing our badges, we recognised that event interactions can sometimes feel awkward, especially when attendees need to lean in close to exchange details. To overcome this, we added springs to the badges as a crucial design feature.

The springs are built into the lanyard attachment, allowing the badge to be comfortably positioned away from the body when tapping. This means attendees don’t need to lean into each other or stand face-to-face to connect their badges. Instead, the springs give the badges some flexibility, so you can easily extend your arm and tap at a comfortable distance.

Here’s why the springs matter:

  • No need to invade personal space: Networking can sometimes mean getting close to others, but not everyone is comfortable with that. The springs on Blendology badges allow attendees to tap from a distance, avoiding the need to lean in awkwardly or get too close.

  • More hygienic: Especially in today’s world, people are more mindful of personal hygiene and proximity. The springs make it easier to tap without physically coming too close to another person, making the process cleaner and more considerate.

  • Smoother interaction: The flexibility of the badge ensures that it can easily move towards the other badge without needing to adjust your posture or pulling on your neck. The design keeps things simple and fluid, letting you focus on the conversation rather than the logistics of the tap.

A Thoughtful Design for Global Events

We developed this badge design with the needs of global event attendees in mind. In some cultures, personal space is valued more than in others, and we wanted to ensure that our badges could be used comfortably anywhere in the world. By incorporating springs into the design, we’ve made sure that attendees can connect with ease, regardless of cultural norms around personal space.

The springs also align with our broader goal of making events more efficient and comfortable for everyone involved. Whether you’re at a fast-paced business conference or a more formal networking event, the badge design ensures that the tap-to-connect feature is easy to use, while also being mindful of attendees’ comfort and preferences.

Simple, Smart, and Considerate

Blendology’s badges are designed to make networking effortless, but they’re also built with thoughtfulness and care. The way you tap—using one corner of your badge in the centre of the other attendee’s screen—ensures a smooth connection, while the springs allow for comfortable, contact-free interactions.

Our goal is to create tools that enhance the event experience, and these small but important design choices help us do just that. With Blendology’s smart badges, you can enjoy seamless connections without compromising on comfort or personal space, making every interaction as simple and smooth as possible.
